The project
The goal of this project was to now the Distance of Mars.
I position the ping pong ball in from of my aye, at the same as the planets.
4 thing the I measure for each cardboard planet (A, B, C) was Diameter of the ping pong ball and the planet and the distance from my face for the ping pong ball and that planet.
Data: Cardboard A, B, C
Planet A:
The ping pong ball diameter was 9 ping pong ball from my ayes.
The planet diameters was 9 planet away from my eye.
planet B:
The ping pong ball diameter was 10 ping pong ball aways from my ayes.
The planet diameters was 100 planet away from my eye.
planet C:
The ping pong ball diameter was 10 ping pong ball aways from my ayes.
The planet diameters was 10 planet away from my eye.
Claim
The relationship between the distance of the ping pong ball and the distance of the cardboard planet are that they are both need it.
Example
IF the ping pong ball was 4 ping pong ball diameter from my ayes, 11 planet diameters away from my eyes.
Significance
This relationship allow me to calculate the distance for the planet.
3 measurements do y need to do this are ruler, ping pong ball and the diameter of the planet.
Applying what I learned: Finding the distance to Mars
In order to calculate the distance to mars, I need to know wide mars was.I estimate the diameter of mars by using the Diameter from my face and the ratio.
Two thins the my teacher measure when he was looking at mars at night was Diameter of the ping pong wall and the diameter of the planet then the distance from your face, of the ping pong ball and the planet.
When the plastic ball looked the same size as mars, there were 38 plastic ball diameters away from the plastic ball from the teacher’s eyes.
Therefore, the mars diameter away must mars be is 55 or 11
According to my calculations, the distance to mars in kilometers is 60,000,000km.
Travel Time
Base on the distance I found, it would take 47days to get to Mars
Base on the distance and time required to get to Mars, I thing is not practical for people to move there.
